Watch out for unusual ‘speed humps’ just before Welverdiend

They look like pieces of conveyor belt tied with wire and make your car shake much more than a usual speed hump.

Motorists driving between Carletonville and Welverdiend must watch out for unusual ‘speed humps’ just before Welverdiend.

The “humps” were put up next to where a municipal contractor is working adjacent to the road yesterday.

The “humps” seem to be pieces of conveyor belt tied together with wire, and shake vehicles much harder than normal speed humps, even if you slow down drastically. What makes matters worse, is that there are no signs warning motorists of the humps in advance. There are, however, people waving red flags but they are standing basically next to the humps, which does not give drivers time to slow down.

If someone should make an accident because of one of the humps, they might end up in the deep ditch dug by the contractors next to the road.

Several motorists have already complained and some people have even taken a different road just to avoid the possibility of getting their vehicles damaged.

It is not sure whether these ‘humps’ are left out at night as well and whether there are someone warning the public at all hours.

The Herald has followed the matter up with provincial roads authorities as this road does not fall under the jurisdiction of the municipality, and we are currently awaiting their response.
