Unwelcome “neighbour” worries residents

People living around Jacaranda Street in Fochville are worried that an illegal incomer could cause problems.

A resident of the area contacted the Herald last week and pointed out that someone had put up an informal dwelling near the crossing of Jacaranda Street and Losberg Avenue.
This new dwelling, which reportedly went up sometime last week, is much closer to Jacaranda Street than where people put up temporary homes while building their formal homes some years ago. It is situated just behind the trees next to the embankment on the left side of the road, crossing Jacaranda Street after entering Fochville from the Carletonville side.
One of the walls is a mattress, and the occupants appear to be throwing a lot of rubbish around.
The residents are worried that if no one does anything, more squatters could move in, causing increasing crime, among other ills.
Although the Herald asked the Merafong City Local Municipality to whom the affected land belongs and whether they could do anything to remove the structure, no answers were forthcoming by printing time.
