Watch out for dangerous cable

Fochville residents are concerned about a dangerous electrical connection that the Merafong City Local Municipality is seemingly ignoring.

An upset resident, Mr Johan Knell, complained on social media this week that municipal electricians relayed the electrical cable between two poles over Gars Street some time ago. Last week, a truck caught the hanging wire and dragged one of the poles to the ground.
Much to the horror of people living in the area, the municipal workers did not plant the pole in the ground but propped it up against an electrical box on the sidewalk.
“If that pole falls, it could electrocute people or children playing there. It is so dangerous, and certainly illegal, to leave the cable just like this,” Knell remarked.
Although Knell said two councillors from the town, Alme Rowles-Zwart and Blackie Zwart, had assisted him in trying to sort out the problem, the hazardous pole was still leaning against the electricity box near 19 Gars Street on Monday afternoon.
The Herald took the issue to the municipality on Tuesday but had not received a response by print time.
