Carletonville Hospital’s phone lines still off

People who want to reach Carletonville Hospital still can only do so by calling cellphones.

Our only government hospital still cannot be reached by landline.

The communication officer of the Department of Health in the West Rand, Ms Nomagugu Hloma, confirmed this afternoon (Tuesday 26 March) that Carletonville Hospital’s phone lines are still off.

“We continue to encourage patients and the public to use the alternative work numbers that we provided,” Hloma added.

The hospital landlines have been off since the beginning of the month, following an issue with the payment of the Gauteng Department of Health’s Telkom account.

According to the department, it is currently in the process of migrating its facilities to the Gauteng Provincial Voice Network system operated by the eGovernment Department which will drastically reduce the costs of communication within institutions and externally. Most of its facilities have already been migrated to the new system.

Hloma says that all the landlines for clinics in the West Rand are working.
