Watch out for these new scammers

The Carletonville police warn members of the public to be aware of scammers with a new modus operandi.

In the past week, someone identifying himself as a police officer called a resident who had been arrested for driving under the influence of liquor in 2022.

The “police officer” pretended to be the investigating officer in the case. He claimed that the police had received the man’s blood test results.

If he paid the “police officer”, the reports would conveniently “disappear”. Luckily, the resident realised that something did not seem right and contacted the police about the matter. I

t was soon determined that the “police officer” who phoned him did not exist and that his blood test results were not yet back.

The police warn that this is a new scam, and advises anyone who receives such a call to contact the Carletonville police station so they can investigate the matter.
