Local model wins national pageants

A young Carletonville model walked off as the winner of a prestigious pageant last week.

Eight-year-old Omphile Motloung had judges spellbound during the final of the Miss Star South Africa pageant in Krugersdorp on 25 November.

The youngster, a star on stage, won the category for models from four to nine.

Omphile, a learner of Laerskool Jongspan, has been modelling since she was six.

“I used to do ballet, but it did not feel comfortable. When I started modelling, I enjoyed it,” she says.

Omphile’s mother, Ms Meikie Motloung, confirms that her daughter instantly embraced modelling.

“She immediately gets confidence when she goes on stage. I travel everywhere with her, but she has never returned home without a position,” she says.

Among other titles, Omphile holds the current Miss Carletonville and Miss Valentine Carletonville.

As part of her latest title, Omphile will travel to the Miss Star Universe International pageant in Portugal in May 2024. Her mother, a single parent working underground at Mponeng, is trying to raise money for her to participate in the final.

“The costs are enormous. Not only must she get there, but she also needs outfits for the swimwear, national costume, interview, talent and evening wear categories. We usually buy second-hand outfits from other models, but it still costs a lot,” says her mother.

Meanwhile, Omphile recently also won the Miss SA Teen pageant. The final is in Mozambique in December next year.

Anyone who can help in some way to make the young star fulfil her dreams and participate in the finals can contact her mother at 078 593 7238.
