Fochville residents’ electricity blues

Residents of the lower part of Fochville are still struggling with numerous electricity issues.

“After every load shedding, our power only comes on after about two hours when Merafong also has load reduction. So, in the end, we sit without power for less than half a day,” one of the residents, Mr Johan Knell, complained on social media this week.
Knell and several other ratepayers from this part of Fochville have been complaining for some time that although they pay for services, they are being penalised along with the non-payers just because they stay closer to Greenspark.
“How can we rather pay Eskom and not Merafong?” Knell asked.
Meanwhile, residents are still worried about the low-hanging live electrical cable on Gars Street. The municipality previously acknowledged that its electricians had installed the dangerous cable as a temporary measure.
The Herald took the issues to the municipality on Tuesday.
“Eskom indicated that its Fochville substation exceeds the NMD (notified maximum demand) and, as a result, the power utility has commenced a shutdown process of the entire Fochville,” the municipal spokesperson answered about the extended electricity cuts in the lower part of Fochville.
“The matter will be addressed by the end of the week,” the spokesperson said in response to the issue of the dangerous cable.
