Four killed in two N12 crashes

Four people, three of whom were Fochville police members, died in two separate accidents on the N12 this week.

According to North West police’s communication officer, Col Adele Myburgh, the Fochville police members died in an accident on the N12 between Potchefstroom and Fochville on Tuesday, 6 June.
Four Fochville police members were travelling in a marked double cab SAPS bakkie on their way to Fochville when the accident occurred at 16:30. The driver lost control at the sharp bend to the right after the bridge about 10 km from Potchefstroom, just before Lekwena Lodge.
The bakkie rolled and came to a standstill in the veld.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found three members, a woman and two men, had died. Another male member was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
By printing time on Wednesday morning, the names of the deceased had not been released as their next of kin had not yet been informed. The condition of the seriously injured member was still unknown.
“From police management, our deepest condolences go out to the family of these members and the colleagues who used to work with them,” says Myburgh.
She confirmed that the Potchefstroom police were investigating a culpable homicide case following the accident.
The accident led to the N12 being closed for several hours.
As far as could be determined, shocked members of the police in Fochville gathered at the Fochville Police Station to mourn the death of their colleagues on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, a woman died in an accident on the N12 in the Fochville area on 31 May. Two vehicles collided at the turn-off to the Bank road. The deceased was not a resident of
our area.
The Fochville police are investigating a culpable homicide case following this accident.
