Residents record a very wet April

This month was one of the wettest this rainy season and, likely, one of the wettest in years.

This is according to rainfall figures kept by Carletonville residents.
According to a resident, Mr Johan O’Neill, who stays in Reinecke Street towards the eastern side of Carletonville, which tends to get a bit more rain, he had measured 166.5 mm by this week. This makes April the second wettest month this season. Only December was wetter, recording 231 mm.
So far, he has measured 972 mm of rain in his yard this season.
Meanwhile, a resident on the other side of the town that tends to get less rain, Ms Henda de Jager of Oranje Street, has measured 151 mm of rain so far this month.
According to her figures, on average, much less rain fell in the western part of the town compared to O’Neill’s figures on the eastern side.
Although we have had an ex- tremely wet rainy season, the wettest one in recent years was in 2006 when De Jager recorded 1,019 mm for the season.
