Four killed in festive season accidents around Carletonville and Fochville

Vehicle accidents again led to deaths on our roads over the festive season.

The latest fatality occurred just outside Fochville on Monday night.
According to ER24 emergency rescue medical service’s communication officer, Ms Ineke van Huyssteen, their paramedics arrived at the scene shortly before 20:00. They immediately found a vehicle ripped in two. “It is understood that the vehicle hit a barrier.
Upon further assessment, they found a man lying roughly two meters from the vehicle. Unfortunately, the man had sustained fatal injuries and the paramedics declared him dead at the scene,” says Van Huyssteen. She says the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not known to the paramedics.
Meanwhile, a man and woman were killed and five other adults injured when two light motor vehicles collided head-on on the R501 outside Carletonville early in the morning of 27 December.
According to Mr Russel Meiring, also of ER24, their paramedics and the Provincial EMS arrived at the scene at about 00:56 to find both wrecked vehicles on the side of the road.
“A man was lying motionless in one vehicle while a woman was lying near the second vehicle. Five adults, a woman and four men, were walking around the scene.
Medics assessed the patients and found that the man in one vehicle and the woman lying outside the second had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and the Provincial EMS declared them dead. The other patients sustained moderate injuries,” says Meiring. The patients were treated and transported to Carletonville Hospital for further care. This incident’s details are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations. At least nine people were also injured when a bakkie overturned on the N12, approximately 10 km outside Carletonville on 24 November. Meiring says ER24 arrived at 11:30 to find the bakkie lying on its side in the middle of the road. Several people were seated near the vehicle.
Medics assessed the patients and found that at least nine people had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were found.
The patients were treated and transported to nearby hospitals for further care. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations. In another accident, a Fochville resident, Anrico Schneider, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, following a collision in Fochville on 30 December.
