Two killed, two critical & two seriously injured in head-on collision near Potch
Two men have lost their lives, one man and one woman are in a critical condition and two further males have suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision between a VW Polo and a Nissan X-trail on the R53, 10 km from Potchefstroom this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 12:05 along with the Fire Department, Provincial EMS and another private service. The VW Polo was found in the road and the X-trail off the side of the road. Both male drivers were found to have suffered fatal injuries and were both declared dead on arrival by Provincial Services.
The front passenger of the Polo was found entrapped in the wreckage and the Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extract him. He was in a critical condition. Two male occupants were found in the back of the Polo with serious injuries. All the male patients are believed to be in their 30s. Provincial Services as well as the other private service on scene treated and transported these patients to hospital for further care.
A 28-year-old woman was also found in the road, 15 meters from the vehicle, having been ejected. She was also in a critical condition and required Advanced Life Support interventions to stabilise her condition before being rushed to Potchefstroom Provincial hospital for emergency treatment.
The South African Police Services were also on the scene for further investigations.
