Hijackers strike on N14

A man driving his Volkswagen Polo through our area fell prey to hijackers this week.

Carletonville police’s communication officer, WO Peter Masooa, says the incident happened at around 09:45 on 20 October.
The victim was driving towards Ventersdorp on the N14. He had just passed the turn-off to Carletonville when he stopped on the side of the road to urinate, leaving the engine of his Polo TSI running.
He suddenly noticed a white Nissan Almera stop behind him.
At first, the man thought the people inside also wanted to relieve themselves. However, as he walked back to his car, one of them grabbed him. The suspect dragged him towards his car and, although the owner put up a fight, two accomplices joined his assailant.
They pushed the victim into the back of his car and covered his eyes with a mask. The criminals then drove off with him and dropped him off near Poortjie.
He walked to the nearest public place he could find, which was a tavern. The people inside helped him to contact the police. Besides his car, the hijackers also stole his laptop, iPhone, tablet, money and shoes in the vehicle.
