Thugs rob hitchhiker

An incident last weekend proved, once again, that hitchhikers should be wary of getting into an unknown vehicle.

According to WO Peter Masooa of the Carletonville police, a man was hitchhiking on the P111 when the incident occurred at about midday on Sunday. He was on his way to Carletonville as he had an appointment at Carletonville Hospital.
Suddenly, a Toyota Tazz with three men, two of whom were sitting at the back, stopped next to him.
The hitchhiker got into the passenger seat and they continued to drive towards Carletonville. At the Annan Road crossing, the passenger behind him pulled out a firearm and pointed it at him. The other passenger at the back searched him and took both his cell phones.
“How much money do you have?” they demanded to know.
When the man said he did not have anything, the robbers drove to the Carletonville Mall, where one of them accompanied him to the ATM.
The man forced him to draw R6,000, which was the daily limit on his account. They then drove him back to Carletonville and dropped him behind a block of flats before speeding off.
