Policeman killed in hit-and-run

The Carletonville police are still searching for the person responsible for killing one of their colleagues in a hit-and-run incident over the weekend.

According to them, Const. Mandisi Dindi (36) was off-duty when the incident happened at about 21:50 on 21 August.
He and his friends had run out of fuel and were pushing their car over the train bridge between Agnew and Annan roads in Carletonville to get to the filling station at the 007 shopping complex.
A black Volkswagen Polo drove up from behind in the right lane and hit Dindi. Instead of stopping, the driver raced away.
Dindi had already passed away by the time the para- medics arrived at the scene.
He leaves behind two young children, a partner and parents.
The police ask anyone with information on the driver who killed Dindi to contact them at 018 787 9300.
There were also other serious, but non-fatal, accidents in the area.
Two men were injured when their vehicle rolled on Bank Road on Sunday night.
According to ER24’s spokes-person, Russel Meiring, their paramedics witnessed the incident. The light motor vehicle swerved and rolled off the road before finally coming to a stop upright on the side of the road. One man was lying in front of the vehicle, while another was lying about 50 metres away.
Assessments showed that the men had sustained serious injuries. They were treated and transported to Carletonville Provincial Hospital for further care.
In another incident on Sunday, a woman was critically injured when a car slammed into her after a partial head-on collision next to the R501 outside Welverdiend.
ER24 paramedics found the fire department and the provincial emergency medical services on the scene when they arrived at 16:26. The provincial services attended to the seriously injured woman and transported her to Carletonville Provincial Hospital for further care. Two people from the Suzuki that hit her were found to have suffered moderate injuries. They freed themselves from the wreck, were treated and also transported to Carletonville Hospital. The occupants of the second light vehicle were not harmed in the collision.
