Attack on guards at substation

Attack on guards at local substation.

Security guards working at a large electrical substation in the area were robbed by a group of cable thieves this week. According to the communication officer of the police in Carletonville, WO Peter Masooa, two guards were on duty at the Carmel substation on the road to Deelkraal when the incident happened on Tuesday night at around midnight. A group of approximately 20 unknown men cut the electric fence around the facility and ambushed the guards. The thugs assaulted them and tied them with wires. They then proceeded to steal two rolls of copper cable worth about R500 000 as well as four cellphones, valued at about R2 500. The thugs then ran away. Luckily the guards only sustained lacerations to their heads.
