There has been a big increase in new Covid-19 cases in the Merafong City Local Municipality area, as well as in the rest of the West Rand.
According to the Gauteng Department of Health, 27 new cases of Merafong residents being infected with the coronavirus were reported since yesterday.
This brings the total number of cases in our area to 5 490. Of them 5 157 have recovered while 219 have died.
Elsewhere in the West Rand new cases have skyrocketed in Mogale City (the Krugersdorp-area).
A total of 134 new cases were reported here during the past day.
In Rand West City (the Randfontein and Westonaria area) there were also 27 new cases reported during the past day.
These are the biggest increases in new cases in months.
