Watch out for scammers offering jobs at Blyvoor

Job-seekers are warned to be on the lookout for criminals offering jobs at Blyvoor Mine in return for money.

According to a member of the management of Blyvoor Gold, they recently became aware of unscrupulous scammers offering jobs at “Blyvooruitzicht Gold Mine”.

Blyvoor Gold currently mines from the old 5 Shaft that used to belong to Blyvooruitzicht Gold Mine, which was liquidated in 2013. At least one innocent job seeker paid two scammers posing as recruiting agents for Blyvooruitzicht. He paid R750 for a medical clearance certificate, after which they wanted another R3,500 for a falsified MQA (Mining Qualifications Authority) certificate. The scammers then assure the person “that his job is safe”, asking them to recruit another 17 people, who must each pay R1,500 for an “interview opportunity”.

“We are very concerned because people are being robbed of their money,” says the management member. He explains that Blyvoor Gold has its own internal recruitment methodology, according to which they select people who were previously part of the liquidation. An in-house employees committee, comprising four representatives elected by the Blyvooruitzicht community does this.

Potential job-seekers will only be called to the mine after this committee has cleared them. They will also be tested for Covid-19.

A criminal case has been opened with the police.
