Burglars wreak havoc

The Carletonville police warn residents to be extra vigilant in protecting their property from burglars.

Eighteen burglaries were reported in our area from the end of last week to Monday morning. East Driefontein is still the town that these criminals target the most. “All the streets in East Village are currently a hotspot for this type of crime,” say the police. In Carletonville, all the streets named after buck and the Carleton Jones High School area are currently being targeted. Khutsong Extension 5 has also had many burglaries. The burglars are not only breaking into houses but also garages. They like to steal gardening equipment like lawnmowers, grinders, weed eaters and leaf blowers. Those breaking into the homes seem to choose plasma and flatscreen televisions. The police ask residents to be more vigilant and report suspicious people or cars they suddenly see in their area. If possible, take down the registration number of the vehicle. It also helps to write down the serial numbers of electrical equipment. If the stolen goods are recovered and the owner does not have proof that it belongs to them, like a serial number, the courts can rule that it must be given back to the person in whose possession it was found. The suspect will also have to be released if there is no concrete evidence linking them to the burglary. People with information on the burglaries may call our Crime Stop line at 086 00 10111.
