Drone helps to catch cable thieves

Security personnel guarding the railway infrastructure in our area are having increasing success due to their use of technology.

According to WO Peter Masooa of the police in Carletonville, the latest of these successes happened on Sunday, 1 November.
A security officer was surveying the area with a drone at about 19:00 when he spotted about 20 people pulling out a cable that was part of the railway infrastructure.
He notified his colleagues and they rushed to the scene. The security guards arrested five suspects and recovered copper cable worth R262,000. The security manager identified the material as having been stolen from the railway services.
The suspects appeared in court on Tuesday, 3 November.
