No bail for alleged farm attackers

A group of men appeared in court this week in connection with a farm attack in Muiskraal between Carletonville and Potchefstroom.

On Monday, the men appeared in the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ Court for the attack that took place on the night of Tuesday, 25 August.
During the incident, the criminals shot the farmer in his legs ten times before fleeing with his .22 pistol.
A member of the Carletonville detective service, Sgt Jacques Nagel, soon received information that the criminals were from Khutsong.
On Wednesday morning, 27 August, he, other Carletonville detect-ives and members of the police’s trio task team swooped on the house in Khutsong South where the suspects were hiding. Eight people were arrested for the attack at the scene and for being in possession of illegal firearms. The farmer’s pistol, another pistol and revolver of which the serial numbers were removed, and a replica toy gun resembling a Baretta pistol were found in their possession. The six suspects who were charged in connection with the case appeared in the Ventersdorp magistrates’ court on Monday and Wednesday but did not get bail.
Ramito Joseph Ngolele (31), Nkosinathi Thembinkosi Mdluli (35), Joel Thomas Novele (34), Clavio James Ngoveni (34), Kenneth Andries Modisane (33) and Ernest Pedro Shirindza (35) appeared on charges of attempted murder and robbery. Ngolele, Mdluli and Shirindza were also charged with the possession of an illegal firearm.
The case was postponed until 14 September for a formal bail application.
