Man hit by bullet on P111 after driving during lockdown

A man who ignored the lockdown regulations was inadvertently shot in the left leg on the P111 recently.

According to the communication officer of the police in Carletonville, WO Peter Masooa, the man was supposed to have been indoors as part of the lockdown regulations. He was en route to Carletonville on the P111 at around 20:40 on 16 April, when he suddenly realised that something was wrong with his car’s tyre. He pulled over to investigate. Just as he got out of the car, he heard some shots. He told the police he had tried to run away when a group of security officers in camouflage uniforms shot him in the left leg. An ambulance transported the casualty to Leratong Hospital.
At the time of the shooting, the security guards were chasing thieves who had tried to steal railway tracks between Carletonville and Westonaria. The suspects had jumped into a car and driven toward the P111.
