Burglars strike in Carletonville after easing of total lockdown

Although they have no respect for the law, it seems local criminals did adhere to the complete lockdown regulations.

According to the communication officer of the police in Carletonville, WO Peter Masooa, two incidents were reported over the weekend following the easing of the Level 5 total lockdown.
In one incident, a resident of a house in Statice Street checked all the doors and windows before going to bed at around 20:00 on 2 May. At around 21:10, however, he woke up to the sound of banging coming from his sitting room.
He jumped up just as the alarm went off and walked to his sitting room. Here, he noticed that his Aim 40-inch television and Telefunken DVD player had been stolen.
The burglars got into the house after forcing a window open. The total value of the stolen goods is R3,500.
In another incident, the owner of a house in Oranje Street was relaxing over the weekend. Although every-thing was fine at around 15:00 on 2 May, he went to his back room at around 16:00 the next day and noticed that it had been burgled.
After forcing a sliding door open, the suspects fled with a 35-inch flat-screen television, a Sony DVD player, a speaker, a grey Dell laptop and a Samsung S6 cell phone. The total value of the stolen goods is R19,500.
In yet another incident, a resident of 4th Avenue in Doornfontein left home for his aunt in Pretoria on 24 March. Upon his return on 1 May, he noticed that his house had been broken into.
The burglars had stolen a 54-inch Samsung television, a KIC fridge, a 200-litre geyser, taps, toilet basins and pipes.
The value of the stolen goods is R8,900.
The suspects gained entry through a broken window.
