Man murdered near 007 shopping complex

A Lesotho national was murdered near the 007 shopping complex during the past week.

According to the communications officer of the police in Carletonville, WO Peter Masooa, three men came into the police station at about 12:30 on 3 July and reported that they had found a body near the 007 shopping complex.
When the police went to investigate, they found the body of a man next to the R501 near Blyvoor. He had been shot in the head, stomach and leg. Paramedics certified him dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified as the late Mr Tshidiso Motladisi.
Police suspect that the murder is related to the activities of illegal miners in the area.
They warn that these zama-zamas are involved in well-organised crime syndicates like human smuggling and trafficking, tax evasion, transnational organised crime, money laundering, the illicit trade of explosives, weapons and environmental degradation.
Illegal mining and its related criminal activities like human trafficking, violence against women and children, the unlawful possession of explosives and drug trafficking are largely regulated by various pieces of South African legislation.
These are the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act No 28 of 2002), the Precious Metals Act (Act No. 37 of 2005), Diamond Act (Act No. 56 of 1986), Second-Hand Goods Act (Act No. 6 of 2009), Hazardous Substance Act (Act 15 of 1973), Explosives Act (Act No 26 of 1956) and Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000).
