The South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) has extended its Road Safety Pledge to the public as part of its road safety campaign leading to this year’s festive season. More than 300 journalists took the SAGMJ’s Road Safety Pledge over the past eight years, showing their commitment to keep the country’s roads safe and to be ambassadors for road safety. “The upcoming festive season, the guild decided to promote road safety and increase the awareness of road users to contribute to safer roads,” said Carl Wepener, chairperson of the SAGMJ. The SAGMJ’s Road Safety Pledge comprises three elements: sober, secure and silent. The pledge includes good behaviour on the road and getting the driver to take responsibility for his passengers and their conduct.
