WeRun Fochville helps our community to get fit

Everyone can join in the fun.

Residents of the Fochville and Carletonville area do not have to look far to get fit.

Every Saturday morning, between 30 and 50 runners and walkers take on a well-known 2.5 or 5 km route next to the Gert van Rensburg Stadium on Amailla Avenue in Fochville. The Kraalkop Parkrun and the Fochville myrun have used the same route for years.

According to the organisers, Ian du Plessis and Clive Wright, they decided to start a new event, especially for people from our area, after the myrun was stopped all over the country towards the end of last year.

In just a few months, the new WeRun has become so popular that runners and walkers from towns like Westonaria also come to participate.

“We wanted to create an event for our community and asked everyone in our group to help us choose a new logo. Participants can walk or run, and we start at 07:30, promptly, every Saturday now that winter is upon us,” says Du Plessis. The summer starting time is 07:00.

Thanks to the help of a local business person, there is water for everyone, and all participants sign in and out when they have completed their distances. Entry is free, and the organisers wait until the last runner or walker has completed the course. Another local business sponsors T-shirts for participants who complete a certain number of walks or runs. Dogs are welcome as long as their owners keep them under control.

On 23 April, the group held an out-of-the-ordinary night run in the evening’s full moon and pleasant weather. After that, the participants enjoyed pizza together.

Anyone who wants to know more can visit the WeRun Fochville Facebook page or contact Ian Du Plessis at 082 317 4474 or Clive Wright at 084 608 5106.

Dogs are also welcome to take part.
