Phororong wins medals at Provincials

The u.14 boys' soccer team of Phororong Primary School again made history by becoming the first school from Khutsong to win medals at the provincial finals.

Previously, no school from Khutsong had even reached the district finals. According to the school’s proud coach, Mr Vusi Ludwala, the team participated in the provincial finals at the grounds of the Clapham Primary School in Tshwane on Saturday. Only eight teams from across the province had proceeded to this level. This was a huge honour, as Clapham is also the development team for Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, the Phororong boys managed to stun many of the bigger teams by doing well in the playoffs.
They smashed Tshepiso Primary 7–1 and also beat Emdeni Primary 2–0. Unfortunately, they lost against Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sports School 2–3.
But the two good wins automatically secured Phororong the third place, while Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sport School and Clapham went into the finals for the first and second places. Clapham walked off as the winners.
“I have no words for how proud I am of the boys. When we started, we had many critics who warned us instead of wishing us good luck. Despite this, I told the boys they have to believe in themselves, which they did,” Ludwala told the Herald.
He hopes the young players will continue to remember this as many of the team members are leaving Phororong for high school at the end of the year.
