Carletonville kidnappers lower ransom, release victim

Luckily the victim was not harmed.

In what can be deemed as a desperate attempt for money, kidnappers recently dropped their initial ransom amount by more than R250 000.

Kidnappers struck in Vaal Street near Goudwes School in Carletonville this week.
This incident took place on September 25.

As far as could be determined, the wife of a 40-year-old resident of Vaal Street became concerned when her husband had not returned from work by the next day.

She called the police, who found his vehicle abandoned on the R501 road next to the Elijah Barayi mega housing complex on September 27.

The kidnappers later called the wife and asked for ransom for the safe release of her husband.

Although they originally demanded R300 000, they later let him go for only R5 000.

The police are investigating kidnapping and extortion charges following the incident.
