Various illegal immigrants arrested during Operation Shanela
Some illegal shebeens were also closed.
Carletonville Police arrested several illegal immigrants along with other offenders during Operation Shanela that was held last week.
Authorities held a roadblock between Carletonville and Welverdiend, among other activities.
The police checked drivers’ documents and looked for suspects.
The group then continued to Khutsong for further actions.
The operation yielded some good successes.
Through rigorous stop-and-search activities 26 undocumented immigrants were arrested, one was arrested for possession of drugs and another for house burglary and theft.
Several suspects were arrested for malicious damage to property and theft.
The police also closed three shebeens for selling liquor illegally.
