CWP’s in Carletonville on the go

They are always very active and enthusiastic.

A group of the Carletonville workers employed by the government’s Community Works Programme (CWP) are not sitting still.

The workers based in Ward 16 have gone above and beyond at work, while taking care of the terrain at the Carletonville Tennis Courts in Calcite Crescent.

They see to it that the grass is cut and weeds are removed. They have even established their own vegetable garden in an area that is not used for other purposes.

“We have planted spinach, morogo and beetroot. No-one is helping us and we had to buy the seeds from our own pockets,” explained their coordinator, Siviwe Nogaga.

Earlier this month the group also held a special farewell for some of their colleagues, Malitswai Mmota, Florence Dlamini, Mary Makoa, Julia Manyake Baleni, and Washington Mbuzeni Nyamakazi.

These CWP employees had been part of the programme for years but have recently retired. Again, the other workers paid for the farewell themselves.

“We had to do something special for these retirees because they were like our parents who were always guarding and helping us,” said Nogaga.

He also thanked the area’s ward councillor, Dawie Harman for always assisting them.

According to Harman their next plan is to plant fruit trees in another unused area of the terrain surrounding the tennis courts.

Another part of the terrain will also be cleaned and prepped for youngsters to play soccer.
