Shootout between mine security and zama zamas near Fochville

The security guards were busy patrolling the open veld between the R500 and Sibanye-Stillwater’s Shaft 9 at approximately 09:30 when they suddenly spotted 11 men who immediately started to run away when they saw the security officers.
The security officers chased after the men, but when they had almost caught up with them, the men started shooting.
The security officers returned fire and one of the zama zamas was hit.
Two of them were arrested while the others managed to run away.
The man who was shot succumbed to his injuries.
An illegal rifle and handgun as well as ammunition were found.
