‘We are under attack’

These criminals are ruthless.

So says the mother of a young woman who was hijacked and kidnapped from Khutsong’s Xhosa Section recently.

According to the mother, a businesswoman from Khutsong, Ms Nonceba Mbilini, her daughter was ambushed by three Sotho-speaking gunmen in front of her business around 20:00 on 13 June.

“They forced her into the back seat of her car and one of the gun men drove her car and two sat with her at the back seat. Initially the men said they will drop her at the 007 shopping centre in Carletonville, but instead took Agnew Road and drove with her to the N12. At around 21:30 a call was made to me demanding that we bring R100 000 for her release, which we did and she was released.

“Her car was found abandoned on the R508 to Bekkersdal near a petrol station. After the drop-off of the ransom money, the kidnappers instructed us to drive to her car and wait for her release which we did. Two police vehicles were already waiting by the car to tow it away as an abandoned vehicle. We then informed the officers who were by the car of what has just happened and they responded by saying they can’t chase after the men who were hiding in the fields by N12 intersection because they can’t leave my daughter’s vehicle alone,” says Mbilini.

“Business people in Khutsong are under attack by Basotho nationals. This is a third incident of such a kidnapping,” she added.

Although the Herald asked the acting commander of the police’s Trio Task Team, which is investigating the hijacking, kidnapping and extortion cases opened after the incident, Captain Mokotlane, and Captain Eddie Boboko of the Police in Khutsong about the incident, no feedback was received.
