Water leaks continue

Water leaks can also lead to sinkholes in our dolomitic areas.

Water leaks continue to be a huge problem in our towns.

During the past weeks water was again streaming from the sidewalk in Reinecke Street next to the fence of Carleton Jones High School. This leak between Bornite Road and Jargoon Street, has been a huge problem for several years.

Businesspeople have already reported the problem more than five years ago.

Although it is not a large amount of water leaking, the constant leak can lead to the formation of a sinkhole. Other sinkholes have occurred in the same area of Carletonville in the past.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Merafong City Local Municipality area in Greenspark, there are other ongoing water leaks that the municipality is also not paying attention to.

There are large water leaks in the area of house numbers 487, 458 and 711 in Greenspark. So much water has leaked at these sites that it has damaged the streets.

Residents said previously that they have been reporting the problems to the municipality, but receives no help.

The Herald took the issues to the Merafong City Local Municipality, and their Marketing and Communications Manager, Mr Temba Fezani, promised that they will attend to them.
