Damaged streets in Kokosi forgotten

The problems keep getting worse.

The Merafong City Local Municipality is not attending to badly damaged streets in Kokosi at Fochville.

Motorists driving in the town’s main ring road, Lembede Drive, must be very careful in the area near the corner with the large hardware shop.

Although most of this road is in a good condition and the section next to Reakgona Primary School had been completely rebuilt last year, the section in the area of house No. 810 is in a very bad shape. Motorists cruising down the rest of the street are in for a rude awakening if they do not slow down in this section as there are several deep potholes in the space of only a few meters.

On the afternoon of Friday 21 June a resident, Mr Edward Masolotsane, was fixing some of the deepest potholes himself by filling them with gravel.

“If I do not fix these potholes no-one else will. Then water dams up in them and they become worse,” he complained.

The street next to the Kokosi Extension 5 taxi rank is also in a very bad shape. Although rubbish was dumped there previously the municipality cleaned this up.

They, however, did not repair the damaged road underneath.

The Herald asked the municipality about the issues on Tuesday, but received no response.
