A group of robbers got more than they bargained for when they accidentally attacked an off-duty policeman this week.
This attempted murder took place in Dahlia Street in Carletonville on Saturday 22 June.
The policeman, a constable stationed at Khutsong, was watching television and listening to light music with a friend just after midnight.
When the female friend walked out of his room an unknown man suddenly stormed in.
The thug, who was armed, wanted to attack the policeman but he fought back and managed to disarm the man.
The next moment he heard shots outside and realized that there was another attacker.
Luckily the policeman managed to get hold of his own official firearm and also fired shots that scared the robbers off. No-one was injured and by printing time no-one had yet been arrested.
