Wedela SAPS reaches out to Mohaleshoek

The outreach took place at Mohaleshoek between Carletonville and Fochville.

The Wedela police held an outreach to the Mohaleshoek informal settlement next to the R501 between Carletonville and Fochville last week.

According to the social crimes officer, Sgt Zikhona Sifuba, members of numerous police units engaged with the community on Wednesday, 15 May.

Members of the VEC (Victim Empowerment Centre), the CPF (Community Policing Forum), the Youth Desk and community patrollers began the outreach around 09:00. Representatives of the Department of Health and the Department of Community Safety also joined to provide information and help where needed.

“The engagement aimed to teach the community about domestic violence, child abuse, and GBV and bring services to them. We also discussed the work of patrollers and the CPF in the area,” says Sifuba, adding that a representative of the Department of Health had promised the residents that they would bring more services at the following outreach. Some 90 community members attended, and the SAPS distributed numerous pamphlets.

Sifuba thanked the Mohaleshoek community, Kusasalethu Gold Mine, Helpings Hands and spaza shops from Wedela for making the event a success.
