Hijackers shoot bystander

The victim was taken to Carletonville Hospital.

Worker’s Day began woefully for a woman from the area.

The incident happened in Blybank in the early hours of Wednesday, 1 May.
A resident left Ngulelo’s Tavern at approximately 00:40 and walked to his car. Three Sotho-speaking men in a VW Polo approached him as he was about to get in.

One pointed a firearm at the man.

Get in the back seat,” the thug ordered, forcing him into the car.
Another suspect got into the driver’s seat and tried to get the car into reverse. While he was struggling, a woman who knew the owner approached the vehicle.

She called to him and tried to open the door, but a robber shot her in the shoulder.

In the ensuing chaos, the owner escaped, jumping out just before the hijackers sped away. The woman was taken to Carletonville Hospital.

The police later recovered the hijacked Polo in Lawley near Lenasia.
