Do not believe ‘sangomas’

Scamsters are using all sorts of tricks to lay their hands on people's hard-earned money.

The police in Carletonville warns that residents must watch out for scamsters.

During the past week two cases were opened of residents who lost large amounts of money to scamsters pretending to be sangomas.

These thugs apparently walk up to residents in the street and immediately start chatting with you. They then tell the victim about their ancestors, and get their trust in this way.

They then proceed to convince the victim to retire and ‘invest’ their pension with them with the promise that it will be doubled.

The thugs then take the money, place it in a suitcase where it allegedly will “multiply” but then disappear with all the victim’s hard-earned cash.
