Criminals quickly arrested just outside Carletonville

Three Basothos are behind bars after shooting at the police this week.

Members of the Carletonville SAPS Dog Unit has a big success at the start of the week.

As far as could be determined, two members of this unit were busy with a routine patrol in the early morning hours of Monday 15 January. As they drove toward the four-way crossing at the R501 and Agnew Road they saw a suspicious-looking minibus taxi.

They police were busy pulling the taxi over when the people inside started jumping out and shooting at the police.

The dog unit members retaliated and managed to arrest the three suspects.

They also found a Norinco pistol of which the serial number had been filed off as well as illegal 9mm ammunition with the suspects, who are all Lesotho nationals.

A case of attempted murder of a police officer and the possession of the illegal firearm and ammunition are being investigated.
