A taxi driver was shot in cold blood at the Carletonville taxi rank this week. The incident happened at approximately 19:00 on Thursday, 5 October. As far as could be determined, a driver of the Carletonville Local and Long Distance Taxi Association (CALLDTA), Mr Banele Giwi (33), was busy packing a trailer for a trip to the Eastern Cape near the taxi in the Carletonville Taxi Rank when two young men approached him.

Suddenly, without saying anything, both pulled out pistols and started shooting at Giwi. According to eyewitnesses, the unknown assassins even continued shooting while Giwi was already on the ground. The murderers then fled. The police are investigating a murder case following the incident.
