Bridge near Wedela being rebuilt

The road will be closed for an indefinite time.

Motorists cannot enter Wedela from the west as the Merafong City Local Municipality is finally repairing a bridge near the town.

The municipality warns that the extension of Alfred Kobi Street, which connects the town with the road from the N12 towards Kusasalethu, is now completely closed due to the repairs.

Flood water damaged the bridge last year, and a part of it collapsed further early this year.

“The municipality has secured funding through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) and will commence with the reinstatement of the road during the 2023/2024 financial year. For the above reasons, Alfred Kobi Street will remain closed to traffic and pedestrians until further notice,” says the municipality’s acting marketing and communications manager, Ms Nomonde Mahube.

Mahube advises residents to use alternative roads to and from Wedela and alternative cemeteries like the ones in Carletonville, Fochville or Kokosi to bury their loved ones while the work is in process. “Motorists and pedestrians are also warned to heed all safety requirements while work is in progress. We thank you for your patience during the execution of the work. We are doing everything we can to keep the downtime as short as possible. “For more information, contact the manager of Civil Engineering, Nontyatyambo (Flower) Moyo, at 018 788 9780. Alternatively, contact the municipal call centre at 018 788 9990 or via WhatsApp at 082 516 0794,” Mahube added.
