Water streaming down street

While ratepayers in parts of Carletonville like Beryl and Platinum Street still did not have water by Wednesday morning, a water leak in another part of town is getting bigger.

Water has been leaking from the veld next to Begonia Street for the past two weeks, if not longer. The veld where the leak originates is near the R501 between Annan and Agnew roads.
The water streams down a gravel road and into Begonia Street.
Although the water was only leaking for a few metres down Begonia Street two weeks ago, it was streaming up to the storm water drain next to Reinecke Street on Monday.
When the Herald visited the leak on Monday, some people, presumably zama-zamas, were busy in the veld and possibly had something to do with the problem as they are known to vandalise infrastructure to get to the water.
“A burst concrete water pipe caused the leak, and the municipality is sourcing the material,” the spokesperson said on Tuesday when asked about the matter.
He did not say when the leak would be fixed, though.
