Mother and child dies after accident
The N12 remains the road in our area that claims most lives.
Yet another fatal accident occurred on the N12 in the Fochville area on the morning of Sunday, 16 July.
As far as could be determined, emergency services were called to the scene in the area of Worskoning near the turn-off to Wedela at about 09:00.
Upon arrival, they found a white Volkswagen sedan and a white Mercedes-Benz had collided head-on. The seriously injured woman driver of the Volkswagen was trapped inside her car and the Merafong Fire and Rescue Services Department had to free her.
Her child, a three-year-old boy, lay on the ground next to the vehicle.
An ambulance from Gladiator Distress Alert transported the child to Fountain Private Hospital, while an ambulance from the Gauteng Emergency Medical Services took his mother to Carletonville Hospital.
Unfortunately, both died on the same day due to the severity of their injuries.
The Fochville police are investigating a culpable homicide case following the incident.
