Parts of Carletonville and Khutsong can be affected by water shutdown

The Merafong City Local Municipality acknowledged today that parts of our towns can be affected by the Rand Water shutdown.

The municipality only warned residents that they may be affected by the shutdown yesterday afternoon. The shutdown started today (11 July) and will continue until Friday.

The Herald asked the municipality earlier today why it had taken so long to inform residents as various other municipalities already warned their residents last week, and advised them to gather extra water reserves on Sunday so that the water level in their reservoirs have time to recover before the shutdown.

Merafong refused to answer this question, but gave information about which residents may be affected instead.

“All the affected municipalities have been in consultation with Rand Water to fill up the reservoirs. Unfortunately, parts of Carletonville and Khutsong areas do not have storage and they will be the first to be affected,” the municipal spokesperson said this afternoon.

The Herald had already tried to get information from Rand Water on Friday to find out whether we will be affected or not, as Merafong’s name did not appear on the list of affected areas sent out by Rand Water.

They referred the Herald back to the municipality.
