Rand Water problems may lead to water issues

As if the Stage 6 loadshedding is not enough Rand Water has warned municipalities including the Merafong City Local Municipality of possible water problems this afternoon.

In the notice, in which Merafong is listed as an “affected customer”, Rand Water warns of a “failure” at its Zuikerbosch water treatment plant.

The water provider says that it had to repair a B8 water pipeline leak at this plant this afternoon (Wednesday 12 April). This repair work was planned to take eight hours. During the repairs water however flowed into its Engine Room 3 which supplies the Eikenhof and Mapleton booster stations.

As a result, the water level at Mapleton was reduced to only 10 per cent and at Eikenhof to 67 per cent.

The flooding affected various electrical equipment, and Rand Water is not sure when everything will be repaired.

As customers within various municipalities can experience low water pressure and even no water until the problems have been solved, Rand Water urges all consumers to continue to use water sparingly.
