Carletonville CBD in terrible state

Although it is the part of town that many visitors see first, Carletonville's central business area is in a terrible state.

Driving around this area, several broken concrete dustbins immediately catch the eye.
One of these is on the traffic island in Flint Street, directly opposite the municipal offices.
Motorists stopping at the traffic light next to KFC at the corner of Ada and Osmium streets can look to their right to see another one.
The traffic island at this same corner is also in a bad state as several paving stones have been loosened and now lie on top of it.
The edge of the traffic island to the right on Osmium Street has also been damaged by what looks like several vehicles driving over it.
Meanwhile, the support of a storm water drain on Emerald Street has collapsed.
This presumably happened after someone stole the metal frame supporting it.
Although all these issues, and many others, are within walking distance from the municipality, no one has attended to the issues.
The Merafong City Local Municipality did not answer related questions on Tuesday. However, they did fix similar issues like a collapsed storm water drain at the corner of Emerald and Halite streets the Herald pointed out in another article last year.
