‘Traffic officer’ hijacks bakkie

Hijackers pretending to be law enforcers are becoming a common occurrence in our area.

One such incident happened on Agate Street in Carletonville on 15 March.
A driver was driving his employee’s white Ford Ranger on Agate Street when a man pretending to be a traffic officer stopped him at about 11:10.
The uniformed “traffic officer” was driving a Toyota Quantum minibus. He asked the driver for his licence and claimed it was fraudulent.
The man then drew a firearm and forced the driver into the minibus.
The hijacker drove the victim to a veld in Randfontein and released him.
Although the driver only noticed the bogus traffic officer, the latter had at least one accomplice who drove off with the bakkie.
