‘Police officers’ shoot father

A group of thugs pretending to be police officers robbed a family in Khutsong Extension 5 this week.

The Carletonville police say the incident happened on 3 February.
The family woke up to a knock on their door at 04:00.
The father went to investigate and came face-to-face with four
Sotho-speaking men claiming to be police officers.
One of the men pulled out a firearm, and they grabbed the man’s daughter, who was sleeping in the kitchen.
The thugs tied her hands and feet and pushed a rag into her mouth so she could not scream.
They demanded money and grabbed all the cash, their plasma television, a computer and cell phones. The thugs then hit the father over the head with a firearm and shot him in his right arm and the right side of his neck.
The neighbours rushed him to the hospital once the thugs had left, but he was not seriously injured.
Cases of attempted murder and house robbery have been opened following the incident.
