Suspects arrested for damaging cables in foiled Carletonville mine theft plot

These criminals are now behind bars.

A group of suspects were caught while trying to cover their tracks in the run-up to steal from a local mine.

The incident took place on October 2. The Carletonville police arrested several criminals this week after they damaged cables at one of the mines in the area to make it easier to steal goods.

Security personnel at Driefontein mine saw men cutting optic fiber cables.

The suspects were doing this to stop security cameras from functioning so they could steal goods without being seen.

Police arrested three men on charges of malicious damage to property.

The suspects appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court last Monday.
