Wedela police reaches out to the community

Police members have also been killed in this area in the past.

Members of the police in Wedela reached out to residents in one of this town’s most crime-ridden areas recently.

The social crime prevention officer of the Wedela SAPS, Sergeant Zikhona Sifuba, says the Station Commander, Warrant Officer Mabina Walker Maphukatha visited the community to talk on crimes in Wedela Ext 3 on September 19.

This far western part of Wedela is known to harbour illegal miners. The Station Commander was accompanied by Social Crime Coordinators, domestic violence coordinators within the district, the local community patrollers, members working with gender-based violence and Green door Ambassadors.

“The objective of the engagement was to educate, advise, as well as listen to concerns and frustrations from members of the community,” said Sifuba.

She added that the initiative went well with more residents opening up and providing sensitive information to the station commander.

The contact numbers of various important role players in the Wedela SAPS were also given to the community.
