Bad service at Carletonville Hospital

Apparently other patients coming from Carletonville Hospital have had the same problems.

A resident from Kokosi complains that the service rendered by some staff at Carletonville Hospital makes lives more difficult for patients such as herself, instead of helping them to heal.

According to Annah Leephile, she has been coughing for at least 10 months and also has pain in the right side of her chest. The excellent doctor at Thusanang Clinic gave her antibiotics, but according to her this did not work. A chest X-ray also showed that she does not have Tuberculosis, which could have been the cause of her symptoms.

Due to this, the doctor advised that she go for a CT scan and referred her to Carletonville Hospital.

Leephile had to take off from work for a whole day as she had to wait for most of the day to be assisted at Carletonville Hospital on June 10.

“When I eventually saw a doctor, he said that they did not have equipment to do CT scans at Carletonville Hospital, and gave me some papers that I had to show at Leratong Hospital,” explains Leephile.

However, when she arrived with the papers for her appointment at Leratong on August 21, personnel there showed Leephile that the doctor had not filled in the papers correctly. They told her to go back to Carletonville Hospital and ask for a doctor to fill the papers in in such a way that they could proceed with their work.

“I started crying because I was still sick and had, again, taken the whole day off from work and had to pay for my own transport to get there. Some of the staff even started to cry with me. They said they really wanted to help me, but was not allowed to proceed with the current paperwork. They said that several other patients who were referred from Carletonville Hospital had to be sent back because of similar problems,” Leephile lamented.

Both the hospital and the Gauteng Health department promised to look into the matter and help Leephile when the Herald contacted them about the matter.
